    An Effective Method using Phrase Mechanism in Neural Machine Translation

    Machine Translation is one of the essential tasks in Natural Language Processing (NLP), which has massive applications in real life as well as contributing to other tasks in the NLP research community. Recently, Transformer -based methods have attracted numerous researchers in this domain and achieved state-of-the-art results in most of the pair languages. In this paper, we report an effective method using a phrase mechanism, PhraseTransformer, to improve the strong baseline model Transformer in constructing a Neural Machine Translation (NMT) system for parallel corpora Vietnamese-Chinese. Our experiments on the MT dataset of the VLSP 2022 competition achieved the BLEU score of 35.3 on Vietnamese to Chinese and 33.2 BLEU scores on Chinese to Vietnamese data.     Impact of Water Components on Iron Nail Corrosion and Arsenic Removal Efficiency of The Kanchan Arsenic Filter (KAF)

    The Kanchan Arsenic Filter (KAF) is an intermittent, point-of-use, affordable drinking water technology for the removal arsenic from groundwater. Performance of KAFs in Nepal has been variable, with high removal in some settings and low removal in others. This study consisting of two parts (laboratory and field research) was conducted to improve the perfomance of the KAFs.In the laboratory research, four different synthetic groundwaters spiked with arsenic were fed to the filters once a day for 35 days to evaluate the effect of water components on corrosion of iron nails and of arsenic removal in downscaled KAFs. Composition of water samples collected from those filters was analyzed using UV-Vis spectroscopy, Flame - atomic absorption spectrophotometry (F-AAS), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Morphology of iron nail surface was done by scanning electron microscopy – energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), followed by a characterization of iron rust powder using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). Colloids of iron corrosion products were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for their phase, images and structure. Batch tests were conducted to examine iron corrosion rates of iron nails in the presence of 2,2-bipyridine under different testing conditions. The field research in Nepal containing water quality assessments, filter checks, and household interviews was carried out to explore potential factors causing a bias and inadequate filter performance. Results from the lab research showed remarkable impacts of water conditions on iron corrosion and arsenic removal by the KAFs, with the strong enhancing effect of hardness surpassing the inhibiting effect of phosphate. Filters running hardness-rich water (200 mg/L Ca) removed arsenic (initial concentration of 2000 µg/L) to under the limit of Nepali water standard (50 µg/L) while filters running low hardness water (40 mg/L Ca) removed much less arsenic, especially in the presence of phosphate. On average, 35.7 to 47.9% of arsenic was removed after contacting with iron nails while total arsenic removal was 85.2 to 99.5% over the duration of this study. The field research revealed that inconsistencies in performance of the full-scale KAFs were mostly resulting from variations of groundwater quality, improper methods of maintenance and operation of the filter users and unfavorable water conditions. A change in nail type showed a moderate difference on filter performance. Addition of embedded nails in filter media significantly facilitated arsenic removal and is a promising solution for enhancing the KAF performance

McCloskey's work is noteworthy for being the only trans memoir written almost entirely in the third person. As I demonstrate, this formal strategy makes her multiple selves legible and disrupts conventional notions of transsexuality as the "wrong body" experience--a linear journey in which one's life is cut in half. Instead, my analysis reveals that the narrative arc of transsexuality can be circular, consisting of hybrid and multiple identities. Building on Jay Prosser's theory of transsexuality as narrative work, this thesis argues for a complex and relational model of trans (autobiographical) subjectivity in which transformation hinges on the recognition of continuity among past and present selves. In Crossing, McCloskey situates her narrative as an historical and political document of the 1990s, an important decade for trans history and politics. Exploring the connections among psychological, social, and cultural influences that give rise to her identities Donald, Jane, Dee, and Deirdre, McCloskey does not seek to make a confession or impose one narrative onto her life; instead, she uses third-person narration to explore the permeability among her past and present identities, treating her memories as the stepping stones that help her cross from man to woman. In so doing, Crossing illuminates the personally and socially transformative power of multiplicity and hybridity in trans self-narratives

    This thesis is concerned with the application of computer-aided design to classical control theory. In classical control theory, much of the effort of control system design is concerned with the generation of charts for such aspects as time response, root locus and frequency response characteristics. These charts are time consuming to prepare by hand, even though short cut techniques are often available to obtain sketches which closely approximate the actual characteristics. A digital computer is able to assist in these conventional design procedures by generating the appropriate charts for inspection by the designer, thereby taking much of the manual effort out of the design processes. This thesis describes the development of an interactive design package. Software for computer-aided control system design has been programmed to operate, via a visual display terminal, in an online interactive mode. The control designer, using the terminal console, is able to specify certain designs and evaluate their effectiveness in terms of the various graphical analyses produced by the computer and displayed on the screen of the terminal

    Miko Team: Deep Learning Approach for Legal Question Answering in ALQAC 2022

    We introduce efficient deep learning-based methods for legal document processing including Legal Document Retrieval and Legal Question Answering tasks in the Automated Legal Question Answering Competition (ALQAC 2022). In this competition, we achieve 1\textsuperscript{st} place in the first task and 3\textsuperscript{rd} place in the second task. Our method is based on the XLM-RoBERTa model that is pre-trained from a large amount of unlabeled corpus before fine-tuning to the specific tasks. The experimental results showed that our method works well in legal retrieval information tasks with limited labeled data. Besides, this method can be applied to other information retrieval tasks in low-resource languages
